CBD Isolate – Everything You Need To Know

There is a bit of a learning curve to fully understand CBD, as with any new health and wellness product. For starters, it is important to note that all CBD is not created equal. There are two major types of CBD, isolate and full spectrum, with significant differences in their makeup.

This article will help you understand CBD isolate and other forms of CBD by covering these topics:

  • What is CBD isolate?
  • Processing and Extracting CBD isolate
  • The Difference Between CBD Isolate and Full Spectrum
  • How to consume CBD isolate
  • The Benefits & Effects

What is CBD Isolate?

The definition of CBD isolate is in the name – a pure, isolated form of cannabidiol (CBD). There are 80+ chemicals in the hemp plant, often called cannabinoids. The pure and concentrated form¹ of CBD isolate is usually found as a white crystalline powder or as a chalky paste. CBD isolate is free of all these other compounds and other plant material. Therefore, it is completely free of THC, the chemical responsible for the high feeling.

Processing and Extraction of CBD isolate

CBD is typically derived from the hemp plant. The hemp plant contains high concentrations of CBD relative to other cannabinoids and is federally legal if it has less than 0.3% THC.

The growing process starts with the hemp seed – obvious, right? The hemp seeds are typically bred and cultivated to have a high CBD ratio and are required to have under 0.3% THC. Our certified farmers plant the seeds in the fertile soil of rolling Kentucky so that it can grow in the natural sunshine. Once the hemp plant reaches maturity, it is harvested and dried,  before going through a CBD extraction process.

CO2 extraction is the most effective method for processing high-quality CBD isolate extracts without leaving residual solvents. As CBD extract is heated, pure CBD crystals collect in the oil and can be filtered. The remaining hemp extract will contain trace amounts of other plant material but CBD crystals can be refined 99.9% pure CBD, the highest level of purity. This 99.9% pure crystalline CBD is then typically ground into a powder and used in many THC-free CBD products.

Our high-quality CBD isolate products undergo additional proprietary steps to ensure purity. Specifically, Daddy Burt Hemp Co. has a proven Plant-To-Product System that allows us to guarantee quality and the contents of our products.

What is the Difference Between CBD Isolate and Full Spectrum?

The terms full spectrum and isolate CBD are often used to describe products, and it is important for users of CBD to know the difference. With so many CBD oil products available it might be confusing. The subtle difference between these two types of CBD can mean different effects, different drug test results and more.

The hemp plant has over 80 different cannabinoids. Full spectrum CBD refers to a product that contains more cannabinoids than just CBD. CBD isolate is a pure cannabidiol, but full spectrum includes cannabidiol and other chemicals that are naturally found in the plant.

If you do not want to be exposed to THC in your product, always select an isolate CBD product.

Two scientists talking about CBD

Full Spectrum CBD typically includes:

  • CBN (Cannabinol)
  • CBG (Cannabigerol)
  • CBL (Cannabicyclol)
  • THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol)
  • Acid forms of the cannabinoids (THC-A, CBD-A, CBG-A, etc.)
  • Plus other extracts from the hemp plant² including flavonoids, phytonutrients, aromatic terpenes

It is important to note that full spectrum CBD contains THC. If the full spectrum comes from hemp, it is required to have a minimal amount of THC (less than 0.3%). Products from hemp will not get you high, but they can have small trace amounts of THC in them. However, if it comes from a non-hemp plant, the amount of THC in the full spectrum product can be significantly higher.

To help you better understand whether to take CBD isolate or full spectrum, let’s think of an example using Vitamin C. If you have a Vitamin C deficiency and you want a highly functional (accurate and easy) way to get the vitamin, then you are advised to take isolated Vitamin C tablets. However, if you want more generalized benefits, eating an orange fruit is a good option because it has Vitamin C and other nutrients (similar to full spectrum CBD).

[Some manufacturers claim an additional classification of CBD called broad-spectrum CBD, which is said to include everything from full spectrum except the THC. Unfortunately, these products have been repeatedly found to be inaccurate and inconsistent on cannabinoid ratios and often contain THC, even though they are marketed as THC Free. As a reminder, you should always be able to verify the cannabinoid content in your product with independent third-party testing results – which are typically published on the company’s website if they are a trustworthy company.]

How to Take CBD Isolate

You will typically purchase CBD isolate products that have already blended the crystalline powder into a delivery product that is easier to consume. The powdered form of CBD crystalline is generally odorless and tasteless, making it very versatile. CBD isolate is versatile and can be dissolved in carrier oils, creams, and many food products. Determining which type of CBD isolate product is best for you, starts with focusing on your goals and your lifestyle. Each product has unique qualities and usage methods. Below are some of the most popular product types that are available using CBD isolate.

Always purchase your CBD products from reputable, trustworthy brands and retailers. Make sure the type of CBD – isolate (aka THC free) vs. full spectrum) – is clearly labeled on the product. Also, check to see if the company publishes independent, third-party testing data about the products that you offer. Without third-party testing data, you cannot guarantee what you will receive in your product.

How CBD isolate works – The Benefits & Effects

Why do people take isolate CBD? Are the benefits scientifically proven?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the most exciting topics in the natural health industry. You may have noticed a rise in CBD-related headlines in the news or online. This popularity is due to increased research into the uses of CBD, dramatic personal stories, and a shift in laws regarding CBD. As a result of this spotlight, many people have found significant therapeutic value with no psychoactive properties (CBD does not get you high).

As of January 2019, there are over 10,000 medical and scientific studies³ that are focused on CBD. This research has identified a series of receptors throughout the human body called the endocannabinoid system. When CBD enters the body, it interacts with the endocannabinoid system in a similar way to the body’s natural chemicals. The endocannabinoid receptors send signals to help the body respond to CBD and different stimuli to regulate functions like anxiety, pain, sleep, appetite, inflammation, and more.

Due to the numerous benefits of CBD, many people see almost no downside to taking CBD. However, some users have experienced temporary and minor side effects such as changes in appetite, changes in mood, anxiety, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, dry mouth, vomiting, and fatigue.

Based on scientific research⁴ there is significant evidence for the following benefits of CBD:

  • Helps support cartilage and joint function

  • Promotes relaxation and calmness during stressful situations

  • Helps reduce muscle pain following exercise or over-exertion

  • Promotes healthy brain function and memory associated with aging

  • Maintains normal or stable mood

These health benefits are not all-inclusive. New qualified uses and effects continue to be identified through scientific research. Now that you have a good understanding of CBD isolate, you can confidently explore available options to integrate it into your daily wellness routine.
